Hey there. Just a quick note to say that I donated a few dollars today to help pay for the ongoing care of comics creator Bill Mantlo, the co-creator of Rocket Raccoon.
Why? Because I’m probably going to see the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie, specifically to see Rocket Raccoon kick some ass.
And honestly, I think it’s a disgrace when the actual creators of iconic characters languish in poverty while the corporations that exploit them rake in billions. I’ll spare you my additional note on the disgrace of the American healthcare system, and why it is so destructive and hazardous to all independent creators. I’m going to assume that you all know that the best thing you can possibly do, as a patron of the arts in the USA, is demand a universal healthcare system.
But yes. I’ll probably still go see Guardians of the Galaxy. Because ROCKET AND GROOT. But I kicked the price of an extra ticket to Bill.
I’m taking him to the movies. He’ll be sitting right beside me in that theater. Where he belongs.
